Hi, I’m Moka!
I’m a 26-pound sweetheart with a laid-back, loving, nurturing personality and just a little bit of protective instinct mixed in. I’m happiest when my whole family is together, and if everyone happens to be gathered in the kitchen cooking, even better! I’ll happily hang nearby and keep a close eye on the floor in case any delicious scraps happen to fall my way. I’m a pretty great balance of independent and cuddly. I’m perfectly happy relaxing on my own in my playpen, but I also love being close to my people. When I see someone I know out on a walk, I’ll often flop right onto my back and ask for an immediate belly rub. And once the belly rubs start, I’ll probably add a few enthusiastic kisses because I just can’t help myself. I have a funny little obsession with socks. They are, unfortunately, my favorite toy — and apparently my favorite treat, too! I also love bully sticks and playing “tag” with my chews. There’s nothing quite like picking up something I’m not supposed to have and turning it into a fun little chase game. One of the things that makes me really special is how naturally nurturing I am. I seem to have a soft spot for smaller dogs, and I’m incredibly gentle and empathetic with them. When I first came into my family, our older dog was smaller and very sick, and I seemed to understand almost immediately that she needed extra gentleness and care. I would lovingly lick her tumor as if I could somehow make it better. I may not be the typical “working” dog who gets excited about having a job to do — sometimes I’ll just sit there and stare at my people when they ask me to do something — but give me a person, a baby, a little dog, or someone who needs some love, and suddenly I know exactly what my job is. I absolutely love people and have become a little neighborhood celebrity. I’m wonderful with babies and young children, and meeting new people is very exciting to me. When someone comes into my home, I do tend to bark because I’m eager to know who they are and what they’re doing. My family is helping me learn that I don’t always need to announce every visitor, especially since my big voice can be a little intimidating! I’m also very devoted to my family. I like knowing that everyone is together, and I don’t like leaving anyone behind. If someone walks ahead or falls behind on a family walk, I’ll pause and wait for everyone to catch up. If my mom goes into a store, I’m not interested in simply walking away with someone else — I’d rather wait for her. I’m protective, but not in an aggressive way. I just have a strong little heart that tells me my people belong together. I may still be young and learning, but there’s something really special about the way I love. I’m not necessarily the dog who wants a big important job — I think my real gift is making people and other animals feel cared for. I’m happiest when my family is nearby, my belly is getting rubbed, there’s something tasty happening in the kitchen, and everyone I love is together.
