Puppy Training Options
When you decide you are going to bring home a puppy, it is a great idea to start looking for a local trainer. Whether you go through a small business, a large retailer or watch online classes, it is SO important to remember, no matter how much training we do with your puppy, they will still require training once they come home to you. We have a few direct trainers we work with and would be happy to provide their direct contact information below.

Alexandra is a longtime Foothill supporter and proud owner of two Foothill Aussies. As our primary trainer for puppy consults, she brings over 20 years of experience in the animal industry, specializing in dog behavior. Each new puppy owner will schedule a virtual session with Alexandra, receiving personalized guidance to address behaviors, build good habits, and ensure a smooth transition. She also offers jump-start training packages at a special rate for Foothill families. Beyond virtual support, Alexandra is available for in-person training and Board N' Train services for families in the San Diego area.

Jennifer brings a wealth of experience and passion to our program. She began her dog training journey at the age of 8 with her first dog, Dolly, and has since become a humane, reward-based trainer focused on all aspects of a dog’s well-being. A graduate of Susan Friedman’s course and a member of the Pet Professional Guild and the Association of Professional Dog Trainers, she also dedicates her time to volunteering with Golden Gate Lab Rescue.
In addition to conducting our temperament testing, she works closely with many of our Guardian Family pups, helping them develop into well-rounded companions. She also offers fantastic training options, including weekend training camps and personalized programs to support dogs and their owners at every stage in the Citrus Heights area. |

To find a trainer near you, you can visit the Association of Professional Dog Trainers website. You simply add a zip code and local trainers will display. This search doesn't display every trainer out there, so the below are some additional options to find the right trainer near you.
It is always helpful to get a recommendation from other dog owners. If you are in Facbeook groups local to you, you can post asking for recommendations on positive reinforcement trainers in your area. Another excellent tool is Yelp. You can enter your zip code and review trainers in your area. Be sure to read reviews! If you are still having trouble locating a trainer, there are big box retail pet stores that offer training. They typically follow positive reinforcement methods and are a great choice to help with getting puppy basic manners and the socialization they need. |
